After riding around in circles for about an hour in KL we finally found the apartment building of our very first official Couch Surfing host, Peter. We have couch surfed before however this was our first time through the website www.couchsurfing.org Peter was so nice to take us in even though we didn't have any references yet and in theory could have been psychopaths! Of course we weren't and thankfully neither was he nor his Malaysian cousin Jay, whom he lives with. Well, we couldn't have asked for a nicer place to stay for our first CS experience. They live on the 24th floor and have an amazing view overlooking the KL skyline. On our first night we went out to dinner with Jay who showed us the place that makes the best cheese cakes in KL. We can confirm they are very good indeed!
The next day we explored the city. We were impressed with the Petronas Towers (aka Twin Towers) with its 88 floors and over 450 metres tall. We then went to China Town which was really just like any other China Town in the world. Here I had my first Fish Spa experience where you submerge your feet into a tub of water full of little fish who then proceed to nibble away at your feet! Now, I happen to have very ticklish feet so perhaps I wasn't the best candidate for the job but after 10 mins I was sort of able to keep my feet in the water without having wild spasms.
Back at the apartment we went for a dip in the gorgeous pool they have there and cooked dinner for Peter and Jay, enjoying the meal on the balcony overlooking the city.
The next day we went to Batu Caves which is an old Hindu temple built into one of the limestone mountains surrounding KL. From the bottom it's 272 steps till you get to the top and arrive at a giant damp cave with little Hindu shrines built into the rocks. It's pretty spectacular. We had lunch at the bottom at a vegetarian Jain restaurant. We are really enjoying eating other things than Nasi and Mie Goreng which was basically all we lived on in Indonesia.
We stayed in KL four days and enjoyed all of it. When we were ready to leave on our last morning there, of course it was raining! At this moment we were very thankful of the waterproof pants that we had been given by Goh and Sam in Singapore. Riding out of a wet and steamy KL we headed towards the cool weather of Fraser and Cameron Highlands.
Enjoying dinner with our lovely hosts Peter and Jay. Thank you guys for your hospitality!
Oops, almost forgot our third host Casey the Cat!
